POSTNATAL CARE

Postnatal care plays a crucial role in supporting new mums as they navigate the physical and emotional changes that come with childbirth and parenting. Pregnancy, delivery and parenthood are enormously demanding on our bodies and every woman should aim to get an assessment with a specialist physiotherapist when they are postpartum.

The recommendation is between 6-8 weeks, but it is never too late.

This appointment will take 60-75 minutes.

A Postnatal Check involves a detailed discussion around your pregnancy, labour, recovery so far and expectations and goals for exercise going forwards.

The assessment will review;

  • Posture & body mechanics

  • Any residual or new onset of spinal or pelvic pain

  • Abdominal muscles that may have become separated and weakened during pregnancy

  • Pelvic floor tissue integrity and muscle strength, review for prolapse

  • Scar management for any relevant birth related stitches (episiotomy, tears, caesareasection)

Following your physical assessment, findings will be explained and a specific rehabilitation plan will be tailored to your needs. Follow up is generally recommended to support progress and modify the plan as appropriate.
