BOWEL SYMPTOMS
Faecal incontinence is the involuntary loss of faeces. Flatus incontinence is the involuntary loss of wind. Continence depends on several anatomical and physiological factors such as pelvic floor function, the anal sphincters, the distensibility and sensation within the rectum, stool volume & consistency and transit which is the time it typically takes for the products entering the intestine to reach the rectum. The biggest risk factors for these symptoms is an obstetric injury, due to a tear or trauma during childbirth, along with hormone insufficiency during menopause and age.
